Belgin Onuralp

Biography

Belgin was born in Keranorsel, Turkey. Belgin has been interested in drawing and painting since she was in high school. Being very much impressed by one of her teachers named Erinc, she decided to continue to study art. Belgin's husband is a professional artist and has also influenced her work.

Belgin worked as a participant artist in a community art project, "Refugee Women Reclaim Their Identity", which was organized by the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre (WAHC), the Settlement and Integration Services Organization (SISO), the Immigrant Culture and Art Association (ICAA) and McMaster University's Women Studies Department. The aim of the project was to explore the issues facing refugee women in Canada and to empower them to express their feelings through art and story telling.

Belgin shared her experiences and stories with the fellow participants of the international conference, "Refugee Women Reclaim Their Identity", and presented her art work which was highly appreciated.

Belgin Onuralp has been an active member of ICAA since its establishment. Her family is also actively participating in ICAA's Professional Art School and in ICAA's other activities.
