Biography
Nazia completed her diploma in Visual and Studio Art, after studying in the Dundas Valley School of Art as well as in McMaster University. She now teaches visual arts, including crafts and pottery, at ICAA's Professional Art School.
Nazia worked as a lead artist on the ICAA "Get to Work" art project, which highlights the problems of immigrant professionals and artists through the medium of art. She was involved in a project to create a sculpture, which was to be displayed in the Hamilton City Hall.
Nazia also worked as a "Lead Artist" in a community art project titled "Refugee Women Reclaim Their Identity", which was organized by the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre (WAHC), the Settlement and Integration Services Organization (SISO), the Immigrant Culture and Art Association (ICAA) and McMaster University's Women Studies Department. The workshop took place from January-to June 2003. The aim of the project was to explore the issues facing refugee women in Canada and to empower them to express their feelings through art and story telling. Refugee women told their stories in a fearless and friendly way. At the culmination of the project, the women created their own artwork, as well as a joint visual art project, under Nazia's supervision. The project's participants shared their experiences and artwork with the participants of the international conference, "Refugee Women Reclaim Their Identity". Their efforts were highly appreciated.
Nazia displays her art work in different art exhibitions in Hamilton and has earned the appreciation of her fellow artists.
