Danuta Niton Where did you study?
I have diploma in Advertising and Commercial Art, and also in Economics from Poland. Here in Canada I completed series of courses in different fields like: Marketing, Entrepreneurial Program, Cultural Interpreting Training, Anger Management, Non-violent Crisis Training, Mural Painting Course, Commercial Art I and II, Creative Watercolour, Forum at Landmark Education Corporation, etc.
What is your art media?
I am trained in Commercial and Graphic Art, and that field brings me money if nothing else comes along. My portfolio includes variety of media, such as: computer graphic design, publishing an ethnic newspaper and magazine, acrylic and watercolour painting, portraits, window painting, as well as huge wall artwork - Murals - created for private and commercial clients, schools, and organizations.
What are Murals in your opinion?
Murals - large image applied directly to a wall or ceiling. That is what a dictionary says. Murals can be painted inside or outside, encompass a whole room or only a part. I paint many different kinds of murals such as decorative trompe l'oeil (pronounced 'trum ploy") that creates the illusion of seeing reality. The architectural elements of: columns, pillars, and arches can be included in murals. This adds a richness and complexity to the design of home or office. Other kind of murals include faux finishing. Those were found throughout history, beginning with the Egyptian Pharaohs who employed artists and craftsmen to imitate wood graining, using techniques in faux finishing. Both a faux finish and a piece of trompe l'oeil art are used to create an illusion, which "deceives the eye".
How mural can change messages?
Today's Murals encourage and promote the art in the community, culture, diversity, and history. Mural can address social and cultural concerns, such as: racism, environmental ignorance, wars, bullying, diversity among the school, fear, happiness, changing family model, celebration of human diversity, etc. Subject close to the heart of a community (school) creates a major impact on culture, heritage, and local hero(s). Murals are proven to:Educate people, Create authenticity, Celebrate community, Express culture and values, Tell stories of who we are, Be a bridge between people, Teach value beauty, Introduce people to art in the most accessible form.
