Hila Taraky
Interview by Jahan Zeb.
Jahan. Tell me about yourself Hila. Where did you learn drawing and teaching?
Hila. I am involved in drawing, modelling and painting since childhood. My father Yar Taraky is a well-known Afghan Canadian artist. We had access to art matters and art environment. As my mother says I cut the ribben of my father's art exhibition in 1991.
Jahan. I have lots of feedback from our studnets' parents. Most of them are very happy about your teaching skills. How come you teach so successfully in such a young age?
Hila. I am a student too. I love when the information is transferred to me with care and friendly. I cannot learn from aggressive teaching. When I teach I feel that the student has a need and I feel responsible to deliver what I know. I also enjoy when a student is learning quickly.
Jahan. Dod you have time to draw or paint?
Hila. When I am alone or I am awake until late I pick my paint board and draw models and paint patiantly.
I am hoping to prepare series of paintigns for an exhibition enxt year. The environemnt for young Canadain artists and crafts people is very promissing. There are different ways to fulfill your dreams.
Jahan. Tell me about your studies.
Hila. I am taking Social Sciences at McMaster University. It is my second year. I am looking to finish my Bachelor degree and than I will decide where to continue.
Jahan. Did you participate in any youth art programs?
Hila. I did participate in the Environmental project supported by TD Friends of the Enviroenment Foundation and the McMaster and Ontario youth summit.
