Multi Art
Supported by the Ontario Arts Council
The goal of the multi art project "sounds and colors" are to illustrate the differences of expression and the uniqueness of the message. We want to draw the sound on the canvas and paint the color in the air by music sound. The project is aimed to involve the artistic community as well as the community members. Artists Yar M. Taraky, Sheila Martinez, Lydia Van Pelt, Nazia Zeb, Ahmad Ahmed and Ashtar A. Kasim musician Neeraj Prem, Shaukat Wali, Wais and Mustafa Ismatyar created a basket of immigrant cultural flowers and presented it to the Canadian public. This was an effort to show the appreciation of immigrants to their new homeland, their commitment and loyalty. This was also a step towards friendship and community dialogue.
The project had a strong message against poverty and economic challenges. This project also delivered the message of protecting the environment and surroundings.
The activity delivered a strong and unique message of community understanding and harmony between all community members using the multidisciplinary art like music, visual arts and drama. This message invites employers to pay more attention to the immigrants' ability to work and create. The main purpose of the project was to show the colourfull immigrant art and deliver a meaningful message of community understanding and respect.
Youth will had a strong place in the project. More than 100 ICAA art school students in some ways participated in this project. They addressed the youth issue by performing or drawing paintings. Immigrant artists, musicians, drama artists and sculptures are usually very motivated individuals during their first 2 to 3 years of stay in their new homeland. If their talent and motivation is not directed on time and properly they will loose the passion of continuing their career in their field of art, thus they have financial commitments to their families and to the community.
ICAA discovered that if an artist sees even a small possibility towards their art promotion and establishment they will continue pursuing their professional abilities. The other psychological aspect of artist is artist community or group. If an artist sees the creation process of another artist this will strongly motivate him or her to do so. By creating these workshops and development seminars artists will get a chance not only to see what is going on in the artistic community but they will also exchange ideas and ways to interact in the future. The process of this project also involves d collective creation boundaries using visual art skills, music and story telling.
The project has sent a strong message against poverty and economic challenges. This project may be the foundation for a number of artists' capacity building and marketing.
ICAA senior artists and musicians participated in the training and idea development workshops with young and emerging artists, and musicians. The project is aimed to involve immigrant and low income artists to explore their artistic experiences and improve their capacities for future contribution into the community cultural life. ICAA members and visual artists Lydia Van Pelt, Yar M. Taraky, Gennadi Kalinine and musician Neeraj Prem lead the artistic and professional development workshop for more than 20 emerging and young artists and musicians.
